It’s All About The Feeling That It Creates

When it comes to manifesting, there’s one really key thing you need: feeling. It’s all well and good to know what you want and visualize it as done and write your intentions down in your journal every day.

But if there’s no feeling behind it or you’re not emotionally connected to your intentions, you won’t be able to manifest them.

Feeling is EVERYTHING when it comes to creating what you want in your writing life and life in general. Without the feeling, there’s no reason to even bother.

Because the feeling is what creates the energy and vibration. And like attracts like. So if you’re writing down that you’re a New York Times Best-Selling Author, but you’re not emotionally conected to that goal–there’s no feeling in it for you, it’s just words on the page–then you can’t make the dream come to life.

The emotion, the feeling, that’s what will help you bring it to life.

Now if there’s a goal you want to make happen, but you’re not really emotionally connected to it or it’s not something that you deeply desire to have, you’re better off putting that goal on hold or setting it aside and focusing on a goal that does hold an emotional charge for you.

For many years I wanted to be a best seller on Amazon. I wanted to see my book at #1 in the Authorship category. But that goal didn’t have feeling around it.

Because I had no idea how to do it and I didn’t totally believe that it was possible for me. It felt like one of those goals that other people achieve, but not me.

And, really, that had a very distinct feeling around it: it felt bad. It felt unachievable. It felt impossible.

Those kind of feelings will only attract more of the same… bad, unachievable, impossible. So I couldn’t actually make my goal of hitting #1 in Authorship happen until I changed the feeling around it.

That didn’t happen for me until Februray 2016, when I met an author who has written and published 47 books–46 of which have hit #1 on Amazon. When I met her, a person I considered to be an amped up version of me, it finally hit me: if she can do it 46 times, surely I can do it once.

And that was the moment that shifted my feelings around hitting #1 on Amazon. Suddenly it felt possible for me. It felt like, duh! Of course I can make it happen!

That changed everything. Because now there was a supercharged feeling behind my goal of hitting #1 on Amazon.

So it’s not at all surprising that I had one of my books hit #1 on Amazon in the Authorship category less than three months later.

The feeling was everything. Changing how I felt about being #1 on Amazon changed what was possible for me.

Before the feeling changed, being #1 on Amazon in Authorship wasn’t possible for me. It was possible, yes, because all things are. But it wasn’t possible for me.

Because I wasn’t open to it. I wasn’t willing to receive it. And so I pushed it away with my bad feelings and attitude about Amazon “not counting” and “not being something I cared about.”

The truth is, it’s not nearly as easy to hit #1 on Amazon for paid books. It takes strategy and doing the work.

But just because it’s not easy, doesn’t mean it has to feel hard. Once I shifted my mindset around being #1 on Amazon and then made the decision that 2016 was the year it was going to happen, it was DONE. All I needed to do was call it in with my intentions and actions.

Everything I did after that point felt divinely guided and totally with ease and flow.

I was finally taking the right actions and doing the things that were aligned with me being a best seller on Amazon. So when it actually happened I was surprised, but not all that surprised, because that’s how manifestation works.

You want something. You decide that it’s done. You put a feeling behind it. And then you take action. What you want manifests in your life. Simple.

It’s us who gets in the way and makes achieving our goals so much fucking harder than it needs to be.

The Universe does everything with ease and flow. And it has unlimited possibilities and ways to bring its magic into your life.

But it can only work for you if you’re working for it.

So figure out what you really, really want, put a feeling of “I already have it” behind it, act as if you already do, and you’ll manifest it so fast your head will explode.

Always And Only Visualize The End Result

Visualization is something I’m getting more and more into lately, as I play around with the power of my mind to create my dream life. I didn’t used to think I was a visualizer. I remember watching The Secret for the first time and when Mike Dooley talked about pretending to drive the dream car and yelling “woo hoo!” out loud–it kinda freaked me out a little bit.

I used to do stuff like that as a kid. But to do it now, as an adult? I don’t know.

But more and more I was finding visualization was something I was interested in. So in August 2015 when a business coach friend of mine ran a mindset challenge, I jumped in and participated.

And that was the week where I shifted everything forever. Because I finally experienced visualization the way it was meant to be used.

When I was doing my visualizations in the past, I’d imagine how I’d achieve something. I’d see myself looking for an agent or writing the book that got turned into a movie. I’d see the things I wanted flashing in front of me–dream house, dream car, dream life.

But nothing really came of it.

During that 7-day mindset challenge though, she showed us a whole different way to visualize. And it was exactly like what Mike Dooley had said in The Secret: focus on the end result.

Imagine it as DONE. Think about what it will be like once you’re already there.

But whatever you do, don’t imagine HOW you’ll achieve it.

The How is never up to you. The Universe figures out How. Your job is to take action (of course!) and focus on the end result. Like, completely dwell on it.

What it would feel like. What it would look like. What it would taste/smell/sound like, if those apply. Really get into it.

Recommendation is 5-7 minutes a day.

The end result is where you want to focus during these visualization sessions. Here’s what I learned from my friend on how to do that…

1. Choose a goal you want to focus on–example: make $1,000 from your books this month.

2. Think of a way you can celebrate achieving that goal–example: get all dressed up and take your husband to dinner at the fancy restaurant you love.

3. During your visualization sessions, instead of imagining how you’ll sell $1,000 worth of books this month, you just imagine yourself getting dressed, driving to the restaurant and then sitting at a table, ordering whatever you want and clinking your glass of champagne with your husband’s and saying, “here’s to achieving my first $1,000 book sales month.” As if it’s ALREADY DONE.

(This is just an example–you choose the celebration/reward that feels good for you.)

4. Now you have to take action–this is important. You can’t just visualize what you want and then do the things you usually do every day and expect the $1,000 in book sales to come in on their own.

Sorry–doesn’t work like that.

This distinction is everything. It’s the place where I messed up the whole manifesting thing for years!

You have to now take action in your daily life AS IF YOU’VE ALREADY sold the $1,000 worth of books.

If you take the same actions you usually take–aka: no actions, most likely, or actions that aren’t aligned with the goal–you’ll get the same results you always have. This is why it’s important to get this distinction. Otherwise you’ll just keep repeating the same year over and over again with very little movement or change.

Sit down and make a list of everything you think would be true about you as a person and your life (writing life and life in general) if you had already sold $1,000 worth of books this month.

Well, let’s see. Maybe you’d have spent at least 30 minutes a day focused on your book marketing. Maybe you’d have bought that new computer you’ve been hemming-and-hawing over for the last few weeks. Maybe you’d have stopped watching 3 hours of Netflix a night and instead spent time reading and creating free content you can use to promote and sell your book.

BOOM.

Those are the actions to go and take RIGHT NOW. Buy the computer. Stop watching Netflix at night and start reading all those books piling up on your Kindle. Create free content for 15 minutes a day. Make 30 minutes of space a day for book marketing and then show up for those 30 minutes and DO SOMETHING.

What you do doesn’t matter nearly as much as the fact that you’re doing it. There are millions of ways to achieve the same outcome/goal. Millions. And no ones path ever looks exactly the same, yet they still achieve the same result.

So whatever actions you’re inspired to take or whatever you believe you’d be doing, being, having when you’ve already achieved your goal, those are the things to be doing now. This sends a strong signal to the Universe that you’re ready to have the result.

The Universe always figures out the How when you’ve taken enough action. And you never know how much action will be needed or which actions will be the ones that work, so that’s why you have to act on whatever inspired actions or ideas come to you. Those are always the ones that connect you to divine timing and what most others call “luck.”

Success isn’t a linear thing. You may feel called to take an action that doesn’t make any sense and yet it’s the thing that actually works. So trust the ideas and Divine Downloads you get and act on them.

By acting as if your goal is already DONE, it soon will be.

I used this exact process in 2015 to make $15,000+ in my business in less than 2 months. And I’ve been using it and tweaking my mindset practice DAILY ever since.

If you want to improve your visualizing skills so you can create more of what you want to see in your writing life and beyond, be sure to join us for the Manifest Your Writing Dreams to Life workshop.

We’re going deep on how to visualize and journal your dream life into reality. YES, you’ll still need to take action (that’s non-negotiable), but I’ll show you how to figure out what the right actions are for you to take.

I’m holding nothing back and teaching you everything I’ve learned over the last decade+ of studying and practicing the law of attraction. And this isn’t just a sit back and learn type of workshop.

This is a take action workshop! You’ll actually get to experience the manifestation process as we work our way through the 30-days. You’ll actually put the principles into play and try them out in your own life.

What’s A Writing Empire and Why Do You Need One?

I love that phrase: writing empire. It sounds so awesome, doesn’t it?

Having an empire that you created with your writing at the center of everything.

Usually when you think of an “empire,” you imagine someone like Martha Stewart or Kim Kardashian or some other celebrity brand. But writers can have empires too.

Remember the other day when I talked about diversifying? That’s what building an empire is. It’s finding ways to diversify in your writing life so that you’ve got streams of income coming in from different things.

Freelance. Copywriting. Nonfiction books. Novels. Workshops. Virtual events. Live events. Digital products. Writing services. Coaching services. Editing.

There are tons of ways for you to diversify and build your writing empire. And here’s the best part: you get to create it however you want it.

If you hate doing live stuff, you can be 100% virtual. If you love live events, you can build those into your brand. Whatever you love to do, that’s what you should focus on and build your writing empire around.

I love teaching, I love writing, I love speaking, so that’s what I’m building my writing empire around. I have books, digital products, live virtual workshops, live events (more live events coming in 2017!), coaching, writing and self-publishing services.

The other thing about an empire is that it’s also a legacy. It’s the legacy of the person who it’s built around.

An empire will live on long after you do.

So really think about that for a second. What do you want your legacy to be?

I want to be known for changing the way writers think. For showing writers what’s possible when you set your mind to it. For being a living example of the power of combining practical physical actions with energetic mindset actions.

That is my legacy–the one I’m creating.

These are all things you’ve gotta think about if you want to be an authorpreneur. Not just a writer who publishes a couple books, but someone who builds a business around being who you are and doing what you love.

That is the true power of taking control of your writing destiny.

And you can absolutely do it. It’s yours to create, exactly as you want it.

For some examples of legacy and what a writing empire looks like, check out:

Robert McKee
Larry Brooks
Joanna Penn

These are writers who have diversified. They’ve found what they’re awesome at and they’ve built a business around those things.

If you want to make a living as a writer, this is the best way to do it. Yes, you could just write books, but you’re limiting so many things when you do that, including growth, reaching additional audiences and, of course, the money you can make.

Diversifying is where it’s at. And while you’re at it, you may as well build an empire and create a legacy that lives on.

And speaking of empire… I wanted to introduce you to my new 1-1 coaching program:

How To Create Your Visual Author Brand

I’m in the process of reworking my author brand right now, and so I had a photoshoot yesterday with my good friend who is an amazing photographer. And as I’ve been thinking about how to communicate my message through visuals, I decided to break down the process for you.

Because when it comes to creating an author brand, you have to represent it in both words and pictures.

So here’s a breakdown of what I do to create my author brand through visuals:

1. Choose Your Words

You’ll want to choose 3-5 words that represent who you are and what you stand for.

Here are the words I chose for my brand:

  • Badass
  • Magical
  • Free

Those words absolutely represent me, what I believe in and what I stand for.

What words represent you?

2. Think About Your Author Message

Your author message is the core thread that ties everything together–yourself, your books, your products/services, your content. Your author message is essentially what you believe the world most needs to know/hear.

All authors need a message, fiction and nonfiction included.

An example: my author message is “you can create anything you set your mind to.” This is a deeper-layer message from the one I had prior, which is “take control of your writing destiny.” Both represent me, my brand and what I stand for.

What do you stand for? What do you believe? What message do you feel the world most needs to hear?

3. Brainstorm Visuals

Now that you know the words and your message, you’re going to use to represent your author brand, you can brainstorm ideas for how to show them visually.

So when I think about how to show my words visually, here are some examples of what I come up with:

  • Outfits that make me feel and look like a badass, such as ripped jeans and a shirt with studs (badass)
  • Sparkles, on my shoes and shirt (’cause sparkles look like “magic” to me)
  • Writing on my laptop in the middle of nature (freedom)

And then, of course, the location where you shoot your photos also plays into creating the visual brand.

How can you visually represent your brand? Brainstorm some ideas in your journal.

4. Choose Your Props

Props are a big part of communicating through visuals. If you see a picture of a guy holding a guitar, there’s a pretty good chance he’s a musician, right? The guitar communicates the message of “musician.”

Here are the props I’ve picked out for my photoshoot:

  • My dog, Weiland (’cause he’s my brand mascot)
  • MacBook
  • Moleskine
  • Kindle
  • Stack of my books

Those props will easily communicate “writer” and “author.”

What props can you use to communicate who you are?

5. Hire A Good Photographer

Be sure to hire a good photographer who actually knows what they’re doing. A good photographer will be able to come up with a whole bunch of ideas for how to communicate your words through the pictures.

You can find a good photographer by:

  • Asking around
  • Asking someone you know whose work is awesome
  • Checking out portfolios
  • Looking for photographer-for-hire ads on Craig’s List or other service-based websites
  • Googling “photographer” plus “your city”

A good photographer will be the icing on the cake.

Are you ready to UNLEASH the power of Manifestation Marketing so you can EXPLODE your fanbase and SELL MORE books? I’ve got something super awesome coming… get on the interest list so you’re the first to know when I announce it.

Manifestation Marketing: What It Is, How To Use It

Something that has become so powerful for me in my writing life is combining practical, physical actions, with energetic, spiritual-type actions. I’d even go so far as to say it’s the thing that has changed the game for me.

It’s the thing that’s helped me to become a multi-book, multi-category best selling author on Amazon and sell more than a thousand books in a month and more than 500 books in one day. It’s the thing that’s made my writing career TAKE OFF.

But I didn’t have a name for it. I didn’t know what to call it, the combination of practical and energetic.

Until today. Today, I have a name for it.

It came to me this morning, like a bolt of lightning, when I was chatting with a member of my Bestselling Author Mastermind. He was asking about getting support on writing and selling more books. And I was thinking about how best I could help him with this.

And then it hit me… the name for what I do: Manifestation Marketing. The combination of taking practical actions along with energetic actions is how you use the power of manifestation to make your marketing efforts a success.

Of course, this also comes down to mindset. Mindset is everything. And mindset is a huge part of manifestation.

So mindset + manifestation marketing = insanely awesome blow-your-mind totally amazing results.

BOOM!

And just like that, a whole new shift in perspective and focus in my writing business.

How To Do Manifestation Marketing

If you’re still reading this, that means you’re someone who believes in the law of attraction (though I’d argue not believing in it doesn’t change the fact that it exists. But I digress…). And the law of attraction is an extremely powerful universal law. Like gravity and momentum.

With your belief in this law, you can use energetic actions to make your practical physical actions–things like writing your book, revising your book, marketing your book–work even better and feel a whole lot easier.

Something I’ve realized as I’ve gone through my journey this year so far is that everything has felt so fucking easy. I mean, yes, I’ve been working my ass off.

But it hasn’t felt like I’ve been. I’ve felt in flow and like things are just happening with ease.

This, of course, is all because of my mindset and what I’m actively choosing to focus on. But the point is, I always thought that achieving the things I’ve achieved this year would be so hard. Yet when I started combining the practical and energetic actions, it’s made everything a breeze.

Again, let me point out, that I am doing a lot of work. I’m taking massive action, on the daily, writing my ass off, creating my ass off, doing more mindset work than ever before… and it’s all paying off. I’ve truly taken control of my reality and began creating exactly what I want for my writing life.

And you can too.

Here’s an example of how you combine practical and energetic actions. In June, when I found out I was less than 50 books away from having sold 1,000 books for the month, I sprung into action and I:

  • Sent an email to my community, letting them know what was going on and asking them to buy one of my books
  • Got on social media and spread the word about my mission to hit 1,000 book sales by 11:59 p.m. that day
  • Made social media posts throughout the night, updating people on my numbers and asking them to buy one of my books
  • Told everyone I knew (or everyone I’m friends with on Facebook anyhow) to check out my books and buy one if they were interested
  • Shot quick videos for Instagram and Facebook, telling people what was going on and asking them to help me out by checking out my books and buying one if something looked good to them

BUT, I didn’t just do the practical actions. I also:

  • Decided it was a done deal
  • Set my mind to it
  • Visualized it happening
  • Wrote my reality–in my journal I wrote out, specifically, what I wanted to see happen
  • Committed to keep going no matter what my current reality looked like
  • Trusted that by doing whatever practical and energetic actions I could think of, the Universe would show up and deliver the result I was asking for

Those are the energetic actions that, when combined with the practical ones, make magic happen.

Manifestation Marketing, in a nutshell. The art of combining practical physical actions with energetic actions to create book marketing magic.

BOOM.

And the best part is, this works with anything: marketing, writing your book, doing the edits, revising, the professional self-publishing process and more. Take action on this, and your writing life will never be the same again.
