Yesterday on the blog StoryFix, creator Larry Brooks gave away one of the most useful tools I’ve found to date: The Single Most Powerful Writing Tool You’ll Ever See.
This tool is essentially a list of everything you need to know about your story before you write it. This applies to writers who want their first draft to be a simple polish away from being ready for publication—for those writers who just want to get it written, this tool will help you edit your first draft.
I subscribe to StoryFix because Brooks knows what he’s talking about. He’s not only a published author, but he’s a story architect and story teller. I know my fiction is a lot stronger thanks to his blog.
The reason I like StoryFix so much is because Brooks offers a formula. He gives you the information you need to know to plan your story.
Now, I’m a firm believer in doing what works for you. If just sitting down and starting to write is the best way for you to get your story written, go for it.
But for those of you like me who need to do a little planning beforehand, StoryFix is a blog you need to read.
If you’re new to StoryFix, here is a list of posts I recommend you read immediately (other than the post on the Single Most Powerful Writing Tool, which I mentioned above):
- Story Structure—Just Possibly the Holy Grail of Storytelling
- Story Structure Series, post #1: Introducing the 4 Parts of a Story

What blogs do you read that help you write your fiction? Do you read/subscribe to StoryFix? If so, what are your thoughts?
