How To Get Writing Done During Your Christmas Break

This is a guest post from Peter of UKEssays.com

The Christmas break is probably the hardest time to get any writing done. With anticipation for the festivities having built up over several weeks, Christmas adverts continuously playing on the TV on a loop, and decorations literally everywhere you look, the last thing you may want to do in your time off work is to get your head down and start writing.

However, your Christmas break is an excellent opportunity to make some real progress with your writing project. If you follow the simple tips below, you’ll not only get a significant amount of work done, but will enjoy Christmas to the fullest!

1. Be Realistic About Your Goals

As you’ll be trying to get some writing done over the Christmas break, you need to start by being realistic about what you can achieve in that time. You can’t possibly work everyday. You’ll be seeing friends and family, enjoying Christmas Eve, Christmas and Boxing Day, and these should be days when you do nothing but relax.

If you do try to squeeze some writing into every available hour, you’ll only get stressed when you don’t manage this and your overall productivity level will fall. So before you even start to write plan your time off and accept that there will be several days when you won’t do anything but relax

2. Find Somewhere to Write Away From Your Family

Obviously, an important part of Christmas is seeing family, but when you’ve decided to set aside a few hours to do some work, you need to let them know that you don’t want to be disturbed.

If you have a quiet place in your home where you can work, that’s great, but if not, then find a place outside of your home to write for a few hours. Your family will understand, and by allowing yourself time to do your writing, you’ll be able to join them for some festive celebrations afterwards and be fully present.

3. Work in the Morning When You Can

Most events and parties over Christmas will happen in the evening, so try and schedule your writing time for the morning. Even if you don’t consider yourself a morning person, you should give this a go.

It’s better to get up a bit earlier and start writing in the morning if this means you can go out later in the evening and enjoy your Christmas break with everyone else.

4. Moderate How Much Alcohol You Drink

Alcohol is one of the biggest destroyers of productivity.

Over Christmas the drinks are flowing and it can be very difficult not to be tempted. But again, you need to bear in mind that you want to make some progress with your writing as well as enjoy Christmas to the fullest.

So try and plan the occasions where you will indulge to fit around the days you’ve already scheduled to take off from work and relax. This way you won’t miss your writing sessions.

If you follow these four pieces of advice, you’ll undoubtedly see some further progress in your writing during the Christmas holiday, while at the same time enjoy yourself with friends and family. Just plan your time carefully, have realistic goals and you’ll be successful!

How will you find time to get your writing done during your holiday break?
