A Tribute To One Of The Greatest Writers And Voices The World Has Ever Seen

I was extremely saddened to wake up in the middle of the night and find out that Chris Cornell, one of the greatest writers and vocalists of our time, had died. Grunge rock lost another legend.

Cornell and I go way back… back to middle school when I was spinning his music in my CD player. Using his voice, his words, for comfort and joy through what would be one of the hardest phases of my entire life (middle and high school). Superunknown was the first CD I ever bought.

He had arguably one of the most unique and recognizable voices in music. I will miss him beyond words. And since I have no words… I thought I’d share his words instead.

Here’s a look back at some of my favorite Chris Cornell songs, starting with my favorite song of all-time…

BLACK HOLE SUN (SOUNDGARDEN)

PRETTY NOOSE (SOUNDGARDEN)

HUNGER STRIKE (TEMPLE OF THE DOG)

I AM THE HIGHWAY (AUDIOSLAVE)

BLOW UP THE OUTSIDE WORLD (SOUNDGARDEN)

Chris–wherever you are, thank you. Thank you for sharing your light. Thank you for sharing your words. Thank you for sharing your voice.

Grunge rock would not have been the same without you and your musical magic.

  1. Jennifer, I’m sorry to hear you’ve lost such a memorable piece of your life. I confess that I didn’t know who Chris Cornell was . . . not my time frame, I guess. I bet, though, that you’re feeling the same way I did Leonard Nimoy died. (Oh goodness, it’s even hard just to type that without tearing up.)

I only recently discovered your blog. There is so much meaty information here!
