There’s a very common phrase you’ll often hear in the online world, especially if you’re an entrepreneur and/or work with or follow business coaches. And that phrase is: “do the work”
“You have to ‘do the work,’” they say. “You have to show up fully and ‘do the work’ if you want to be successful.”
How many times have you heard some version of this phrase?
We take “do the work” to mean doing the writing, the creating, the selling, the marketing, etc. But most of the time “the work” has nothing to do with that.
So much of “the work” is actually dealing with and finding ways to overcome and push through the things that get in the way of you doing the writing and the creating.
That’s the REAL work.
Going inside yourself; seeing what’s there; being willing to face it head-on and deal with it; releasing whatever you find that no longer serves; reprogramming your mind to think and believe things that align with your dreams and next-level you. That is the work you really need to do.
That is the work you must commit to DAILY and do NO MATTER WHAT.
The real work–the most important work–that you must do isn’t just the writing and the creating. It’s removing anything that gets in the way of you doing the writing and creating.
The fear. The doubt. The disorganization. The distractions. The procrastination. The resistance. The “I don’t feel like it.” The excuses. The “reasons.” Whatever stops you from showing up for your writing and your art and your creating–that’s the work you need to do.
Problem is, most people won’t do the real work.
They’ll have a goal, a dream, a desire, and they’ll want it. Bad. But not bad enough to go inside and clear out the bullshit.
Big mistake.
Because really and truly that is the only work that matters. And when you do the inner work, the outer work–the writing, the creating–becomes easy. It becomes fun. It becomes something you look forward to every day.
If there’s anything I’ve learned in my 10+ years being an online entrepreneur, it’s that.
At first, it was a hard to accept, because the real work is the stuff that scares you the most. We tend to think what’s scaring us is the writing, the creating, the being successful. And maybe that’s part of it.
But what’s really scaring you is all the stuff going on in your head and in your soul that you refuse to deal with.
The bad habits you haven’t released. The negative voices and limiting beliefs you won’t face. The feelings of inadequacy, of not being enough that you constantly ignore.
And THAT is the actual shit that’s keeping you stuck. THAT is what’s actually stopping you from being successful and getting the results and outcomes you desire in your life.
Holding onto your bullshit is more of a priority right now than doing your soulwork and living your purpose.
That’s fine, I guess. But I can 100 percent guarantee that at the end of your life, the thing you will REGRET the most will be that you didn’t do the real work you needed to do to finally do the writing and the creating.
Don’t get me wrong, doing the real work isn’t easy. It’s probably one of the hardest things you’ll ever do… ever.
But it’s worth it. It’s worth it. It’s WORTH IT.
If for no other reason than doing the real work will finally allow you the freedom to do the writing and creating that you want to do.
Sure, you can get some results and create some success on the surface-level. You don’t HAVE TO do the real work.
But if you don’t, you’ll never get to fully live your dreams.
Ever.
You will always just get surface-level results. You’ll achieve some things, but it won’t ever feel or be as good as you think it will.
And your true soulwork will never fully be unleashed.
Because you’re not willing to get the fuck over yourself and deal with your inner shit. How sad is that?
To know you came to this planet with talents, with gifts to share, with a purpose to live, and yet you’re allowing total bullshit nonsense to stop you from doing exactly what you came here to do.
And the thing is… you’re gonna die either way. Whether you live your purpose or not, one day, you’ll be gone, and with you will go the purpose and the talent and the gifts you came here to unleash.
That’s what happens for most people.
Most people settle for a mediocre life and a purposeless existence. They fall into the trap of believing they have no control and that life is happening to them and they’re just a victim of “what is.”
And then they become a cog in the wheel of the status quo.
Every day they miserably snooze the alarm a bunch of times, crankily get out of bed, go to a job they hate for eight hours, come back home, and then numb themselves out with food and sugar and TV and drugs and alcohol and whatever else they can find to distract themselves from the fact that they’re not living their purpose.
Most people are living bullshit lives that don’t feel good, that don’t make them happy and that aren’t fulfilling in any way. They may have pieces of their life that make them happy, but they’re not living their purpose.
And when you have a purpose but refuse to live it, you suffer (and sadly, so does the rest of the world).
So, what’s the alternative?
Do the REAL work.
Go inside.
Be afraid and face it anyhow.
Make the leap.
Reprogram the bullshit you’ve been told your whole life.
Release the bad habits and patterned ways of thinking that no longer serve you.
Give yourself permission to let go of the beliefs that aren’t actually yours… no matter how much you love the person who gave those beliefs to you in the first place; you’re not betraying them by choosing to think, believe and feel for yourself.
Make your purpose and your soulwork more of a priority than your bullshit.
This is the real work. The work that most people will never do.
But you’re not most people… are you?
There’s only one way to find out…
