What Would It Mean For You To Reach Your Writing Goals?

By Jennifer Blanchard

So far this month, I’ve written a lot about writing goals and writing dreams–how to create them, how to take steps toward them, how to reach them. If you missed any of the posts, here’s a list of all of them:

For the final post about goals for the month, it’s time to think about what will happen when you reach your writing goals.

So let me ask you…What would meeting your writing goals mean for you?

Would it mean you’ll finally be in the habit of writing every day? Would it mean you will have finished your first novel? Would it mean you’ll have sent some query letters off to an agent?

So whenever you’re ready, grab your writer’s notebook/journal and answer the following questions:

  1. What will my life look like when I reach my writing goals?
  2. What will the outcome of reaching my writing goals be?
  3. What will it mean for me to reach my writing goals?
  4. What will I know is possible after I reach my writing goals?
  5. How will my life change as a result of reaching my writing goals?

When you have a clear idea of what your end-result will be, it will help you stay focused on what you’re trying to achieve.

Give the exercise a try, and be sure to share what you discover in the comments below!

  1. Hi Jen
I thought I was the only crazy person to do this. Started a number of years ago, cos I just don’t go along with the New Year’s Resolution (goal setting) thing. Thanks for the post.
    Cheers.
